Skinamilism: Everything You Need to Know

Skinamilism: Everything You Need to Know

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by too many powerful active ingredients in your skincare lineup.

[Us: 🙌 ]

We get it. Skincare is life and no one here is going to judge you for a 12-step routine or for always buying and trying the newest and latest skincare products.

But…

Do you ever feel like sometimes that is doing more damage than good for your skin?

Spoiler alert: it is.

Enter Skinamilism: A Minimalist Skincare Routine

The skinamilism trend started popping up in 2021 and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Although it can mean stripping back and reducing the number of products in your skincare lineup, it doesn’t necessarily have to.

The main focus of skinamilism is to use multi-use products that have active ingredients that work well together.

And there are many benefits to skinamilism skincare:

  • It’s great if you have sensitive skin as it doesn’t have many variables once you find your skinamilism skincare routine.
  • Skinamilism can help get your skin back on track if you’ve over-exfoliated or applied one too many serums on top of each other. Unfortunately, a very common reason behind rashes, redness, irritation, and acne is the overuse of products, too many products, or active ingredients applied that don’t get along.
  • Above all else, it could potentially save you time and money. Did you hear that? Save you time AND money. Yes, please.

Minimal Skincare

By now, you’re more than convinced to give skinamilism a try. But where to start?
When picking products for your new minimal skincare routine, focus on formulas. A good formula contains more than one active ingredient and the correct ratio of ingredients for your skin.

Using multitasking products like our Chase the Sun SPF Face Moisturizer combines the steps of applying SPF and daily moisturizer into one. (Lazy girls rejoice! You have more time in bed. Active girls rejoice! You have time to learn a new hobby.)

Following a minimal skincare routine also helps avoid accidentally combining active ingredients that fight each other, the overuse of potentially irritating ingredients, and needlessly using similar products that are doing the same thing.

Skinamilism Routine

A solid skinamilist routine should consist of 3-4 products. How does one choose only four products? Don’t you worry. We did the hard work for you.

Follow the three steps below for a simple yet effective routine full of multitasking products.

Step 1: Cleanser

No matter what you are looking for out of your routine, step 1 should always be a good cleanser that works well with your skin type.

For normal to oily skin, we recommend our Down to Earth Swirled Mud Gel Cleanser. It uses kaolin and French clays to dissolve makeup, oil, and other impurities without over-drying the skin. It also contains vitamin C and DMAE to firm the skin and leave behind a more even, soft complexion. Use both AM and PM.

If you have sensitive or dry skin, check out our Bright Side Cream Cleanser. It’s made with a mix of fruit and seed oils along with glycolic acid that nourishes and hydrates the skin while cleansing and naturally exfoliating. It also contains orange peel, which works as a natural toner that removes dead cells and tightens pores. Use both AM and PM.

Step 2: Eye Cream

The holy grail of skincare. Every routine, no matter how simple or complex, should contain a good eye cream. The skin under the eye is sensitive and different from the rest of your face - that’s why you need a product that targets it specifically.

Our All In Eye Cream contains all 8 of our namesake, powerhouse ingredients and is the definition of a multitasking product. It plumps and hydrates the skin to get rid of crow’s feet and fine lines while brightening and tightening the skin with MSM and vitamin C to get rid of dark circles and bags.

Our favorite part? The cucumber hydrosol, which has a soothing, cooling effect. Feels great to wake up to and even better at night after a long day. Use both AM and PM.

Step 3: Moisturizer

The amount of daily moisturizers out there is overwhelming. When choosing the right moisturizer for your skinamilism routine, remember to look for a multitasking product that fits your needs and desired results.

For daytime use, we recommend Chase the Sun, our daily moisturizer that uses vitamin E and hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin and protect it from free radicals. In addition to hydration, it uses zinc oxide to protect against UVA/UVB rays. The best part? It has a light lavender scent that makes it perfect for every season.

When it comes to nighttime skincare, repairing our skin while we sleep is one of our favorite ways to multitask. Luckily, that is what our Up the Anti Anti-Aging Night Cream was made to do. Hyaluronic acid works to hydrate the skin, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles while peptides increase collagen production to plump the skin. Niacinamide (a form of vitamin B-3) increases the production of ceramides, elastin, and keratin to firm and smooth the skin so you wake up with glowing skin.

Succeed with Skinamilism

Effective yet simple skincare is kind of our jam so, we definitely recommend checking out the skinamilism trend. Whether you find your new go-to routine or use it as a detox to refresh, we hope you enjoy your extra time, however you spend it.
