Meet the Eight Saints

Antioxidants are naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. From marula and apricot oil to green tea and rosehips, antioxidants help to protect your skin against free radicals.

Free radicals are created by external pollutants such as smog, cigarette smoke and sunlight. They cause damage to skin by grabbing electrons from atoms in our skin. When these atoms are taken away, our skin begins to sag and age. If antioxidants are introduced, they will donate an electron to a free radical instead of the free radical taking an electron from the skin’s atoms. This results in tightened and toned skin, reduces inflammation, and gets your skin back to glowing!

Vitamin E is a natural component of healthy skin. It’s often overshadowed by trendy newcomer ingredients, however it is a powerful (yet gentle!) antioxidant that defends skin by neutralizing free radicals from pollution and other environmental stressors that weaken skin over time. Vitamin E also helps tighten, firm, and moisturize the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a protein found naturally in our skin. (Ours is cruelty free, botanically based!) It absorbs easily and it’s the ultimate moisturizer capable of binding 1,000 times its own weight in water. As we age our skin becomes increasingly dry. A product that contains hyaluronic acid can replenish the moisture and provide long lasting hydration plumping away fine lines and wrinkles.

Peptides are proteins found naturally in skin that communicate with cells to trigger collagen production. Our skin is primarily comprised of collagen, which breaks down as we age. When topical skin care peptides are applied, they signal your body to produce new collagen.

This minimizes wrinkles and plumps skin. Our products contain the anti-aging peptide Matrixyl 3000 composed of 2 proteins, which triggers the formation of several important skin components including elastin and collagen.

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that reduces signs of aging by repairing damaged skin, accelerating collagen synthesis and correcting hyperpigmentation. You’ll find it in our products as Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP). This is the most stable form of vitamin C, meaning it will not oxidize over time and become ineffective. SAP can easily penetrate the skin, unlike ascorbic acid which is not easily absorbed. We’ve fine-tuned the balance of vitamin C - enough to boost collagen production but not too much to cause redness and irritation.

MSM is found in all living things and forms organically from carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur. In our bodies it is the “glue” that holds together our amino acid chains – which are the base of our body tissue.

It’s known for inhibiting the breakdown of collagen, reducing inflammation, and making the cell wall more permeable so vital nutrients can flow through.

MSM can also reduce acne because it makes the skin more permeable - this means it will speed up the release toxins that clog pores.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are natural exfoliants. They work by loosening the intercellular glue that holds our skin cells together and moving along the skin’s shedding process that slows down with age. This reveals a fresh new layer of glowing skin. Thanks to all this healthy turnover, AHA’s also fade dark spots and clean pores to allow for better penetration of other skincare products.

AHA’s come in the forms of glycolic acid (sugarcane), lactic acid (milk), and malic acid (fruit). Glycolic acid has the smallest molecules and can penetrate the skin quickly. Lactic and malic acid are slightly less harsh and a good place to start for more sensitive skin.

Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 that is rich in antioxidant properties that help protect your skin and help it recover from damage from factors such as sun, stress, and aging. Niacinamide has been shown to reduce inflammation and redness caused by things such as rosacea, acne, and eczema. It is also dermatologist approved to help brighten skin tone. Niacinamide is excellent at boosting skin's hydration - it helps lock moisture into the skin's lipid barrier (a layer of water and oil that protects your skin) while keeping out pollutants and irritants. This helps your skin stay hydrated and less sensitive.
