We’ve all heard the hype around vitamin C in skincare – and guess what? We agree! Vitamin C helps with anti-aging,acne, hyperpigmentation, and more.
But with hype comes confusion. There are so many options out there and so many questions.
- How do you know what type of Vitamin C is best for skincare?
- What type of Vitamin C product should you use on your skin?
- When should it be applied?
Don’t worry! We’re here to clear things up - just like vitamin C will clear up your skin (see what we did there?).
Vitamin C Face Benefits
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals and environmental damage. It targets irregularities in the skin, such as age spots, acne scars, and discoloration, leaving behind a brighter, more even complexion. Last but not least, vitamin C rebuilds collagen to tighten the skin and get rid of any wrinkles or fine lines.
Which Type of Vitamin C Is Best for Skincare?
We’ve been firm believers in vitamin C for some time. It’s one of our “Eight Saints” and a key ingredient in several of our products. We make sure to only use the best, most stable form of vitamin C for skincare - Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP).
What does “stable” mean? SAP won’t oxidize or degrade over time and become ineffective. You get the same potency every time you use it, making this the best kind of vitamin C for sensitive skin. Also, it can easily penetrate the skin to offer maximum benefits. That’s unlike ascorbic acid, another common form of vitamin C which is not easily absorbed.
Adding Vitamin C to Your Routine
Vitamin C is safe to use on your skin every day. If you have sensitive skin or are introducing vitamin C for the first time, every other day is fine too.
One advantage of using vitamin C for skincare is that its benefits build up over time. So, even if you don’t apply it daily, you’ll continue to feel its benefits. Still, consistency is key to getting the best results.
We recommend applying your vitamin C skincare products twice daily, at morning and at night. Vitamin C in the morning will fight UV damage throughout the day and protect your skin from contaminants. Vitamin C at night works to brighten and tighten the skin by rebuilding collagen and clearing any blemishes.
The best way to incorporate vitamin C into your routine is to add a vitamin C serum, like our Seeking C Face Serum. For the best results, apply it after cleansing and using toners but before moisturizing. Apply it to your face and neck and let it absorb completely before applying your moisturizer.
Make sure you store your vitamin C skincare products in a dark, dry place to ensure they maintain their potency. Light and air can destabilize vitamin C so don’t leave the cap off for too long and make sure it’s secured after you apply.
What Are the Benefits of Vitamin C Serum?
Since a serum is a highly concentrated, potent formula, it’s able to penetrate deep into the skin and deliver results from the inside out. Our Seeking C Vitamin C Face Serum reduces skin inflammation, corrects irregular pigmentation, promotes healthy collagen production, and naturally prevents acne breakouts.
A serum is a great source of vitamin C for oily skin as it is fast absorbing and leaves behind no sticky residue. This also makes it perfect for morning application prior to makeup. You get the glow from within and not from oily leftovers.
Because vitamin C can sometimes be harsh on sensitive skin, we added jojoba to our Seeking C Face Serum. Jojoba has anti-inflammatory properties that calm and moisturize the skin. Its makeup is so similar to your skin's natural oil (sebum) that your skin can’t tell the difference.
Our vitamin C serum also contains dandelion to naturally detox your skin and clear pores of any unwanted substances that may get in. And it has vitamin E to nourish the skin and provide additional protection against free radicals.
Enjoy the Many Vitamin C Skin Benefits
Yay, antioxidants! Just like a glass of OJ benefits your insides, a dose of vitamin C applied to the skin benefits your outsides. Adding vitamin C to your skincare routine adds daily protection against environmental toxins, diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, and fights blemishes and breakouts keeping your skin clear, firm, and even.
So listen to our glowing (literally, our skin is glowing) review of vitamin C and check out our Seeking C Face Serum.
Feel like you need an extra boost? Apply a layer of our Cloud Whip Vitamin C Cream. This fluffy, whipped moisturizer feels like an indulgent spa treatment while still absorbing quickly (thank you, SAP) making it great for everyday use. It activates upon contact and provides an additional barrier against free radicals while also continuing the fight against aging.
Please note, vitamin C can make the skin a little more sensitive to the sun. So make sure to follow it up with our Chase the Sun SPF face moisturizer for added protection.
Three cheers for vitamin C - the multi-purpose, powerhouse of skincare! Hip, hip, hooray!
