As the temps drop and the air gets cool and dry, you might notice your skin following suit. When it comes to transitioning your skin from summer/fall to winter you can easily swap out of a few of your products to match the dryer air, build a new winter skincare routine, or just add in additional measures to keep your skin hydrated, even, and healthy all winter long.
Winter Skincare Essentials
Like any cold weather skincare routine, the first step is a cleanser. In the wintertime, we recommend using a creamy cleanser that still provides moisture and is less likely to dry out your already dry skin. Our Bright Side cream cleanser contains vitamin E and mango seed butter to nourish the skin while using glycolic acid and orange peel to cleanse the face.
We also recommend not using hot water when washing your face as this can also dry out the skin more and during the winter we need all the moisture we can get! Keep it lukewarm and your hydrated skin will thank you.
Exfoliate for Clearer Skin
And make sure you don’t skip the exfoliating! We’ve heard of people removing this step from their winter skincare routine to not dry out their skin. But really, if you don’t exfoliate, you are causing more damage to your skin. Use our Zen Out of Ten bamboo scrub, which gently exfoliates the skin and removes the dead dry skin that tends to build up quicker during the winter months without stripping the skin of moisture.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
The key step to any cold weather skincare routine: hydration. Amp up the hydration in your routine by adding in a hyaluronic acid serum like Pep Rally. It is lightweight and melts into the skin making it the perfect base before any creams or moisturizers.
Apply Pep Rally after cleansing to maintain moisture all day long. Follow it up with your go-to moisturizer. Use a moisturizer that blocks free radicals and protects the skin from outside elements while keeping the skin hydrated.
SPF in the Winter?
It might not be the first thing that comes to mind in the wintertime but SPF is just as important in the winter as it is in the summer. Finish up your morning routine with a moisturizing SPF like Chase the Sun. UV rays penetrate winter clouds so SPF is needed even on those cloudy, snowy days. Plan to hit the slopes this winter? UV radiation increases as you rise above sea level. And snow actually reflects and intensifies sunlight, so apply your SPF and skip that goggle burn line.
For an extra boost of hydration at night, follow your serums with Up the Anti Anti-Aging Cream. Our nighttime anti-aging cream uses niacinamide and vitamin B-3 to fight fine lines and wrinkles while also using hyaluronic acid and peptides to lock in moisture and renew your skin overnight. Dreams of sugar plum fairies not guaranteed.
Skincare Tips in Winter
Winter is all about getting cozy. So put on your comfiest pj’s, grab your hot cocoa, light a fire (or hit play on a lit fire video on your laptop), turn on your favorite holiday flick, apply No Plans Antioxidant-Rich Face Mask, and have the coziest night. Our natural kaolin clay mask works to maintain hydration while also detoxing the skin. A mask is great in the winter to keep your skin plump and rosy.
And last, but not least, don’t forget your lips! Apply a lip mask like Lip Trick Lip Mask at night and even sometimes a little in the morning to keep chapped lips a thing of the past. Coconut oil and Vitamin E keep your lips hydrated, plump, and ready for any mistletoe or midnight kisses that might pop up during your holiday season.
Did We Mention Hydration?
